Obesity continues to be a big problem for many Americans; obesity causes cancer, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. These can all lead to a shorter life expectancy. Many people tend to indulge in fast food because it’s cheap and there is no waiting around. A trip to any fast food restaurant can easily take less than ten minutes or sometimes even less. There is a McDonald’s on every corner, some are even open 24 hours, and these tend to have the drive thru. So if you want a late snack McDonald’s is always open.
Last year, McDonald’s started to put the calorie information on their items, but this still didn’t change what people ordered. McDonald’s has also added apple slices, all white meat chicken to make the sandwiches and nuggets and they also have 1% low fat milk. Eating healthy at McDonald’s can be a challenge because even with a salad you can add salad dressing that is fattening or you can add some Low Fat Balsamic Vinaigrette to your salad.
Everyone knows that McDonald’s is not healthy but it’s fine to have it once in a while. A Double Cheeseburger has 440 calories, while the Southwest Salad with Crispy Chicken has 450 calories. So even when you may think a salad is healthier than a burger, it’s actually not. They both contain almost the same amount of calories. These two items combined don’t match up to the highest calorie item which is the breakfast with hotcakes and a large biscuit, which contains 1,150-calories.
